The 26th of January is recorded in golden letters in the country’s history. India officially became a republic on this day in 1950. Since then January 26 is celebrated as Republic Day every year. On this occasion, a parade is organized at India Gate in Delhi. Several types of tableaux emerge and the army demonstrates its power. India may have officially declared itself a republic on 26 January 1950, but its preparations had begun much earlier. Congress session was held in Lahore on 26 January 1929. Jawaharlal Nehru was presiding. In this, a proposal was made to make India a full republic, which was rejected by the British rule.

A year later, on 26 January 1930, the Congress declared India as a full republic on its behalf. Meanwhile, the war of independence from the British continued. Then about 16 years later, on 9 December 1946, the writing of the Indian Constitution began. The Chairman was Sachchidananda Sinha. But later the President of the Constituent Assembly, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was elected. Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar became the jurist of the Constituent Assembly Committee. It took 2 years 11 months 18 days to make the constitution.

On 26 November 1949, the committee submitted to the Constitution Chairman. But two months after the constitution officially came into force. That is, on 26 January 1950. The biggest reason for choosing this day was the Lahore Congress session, where the proposal of a full republic was introduced for the first time. On 26 January 1950, the country’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, hoisted the flag with a 21-gun salute and declared India a full republic. Since then, every year this day is celebrated as Republic Day.
